About Us

Welcome to The Zero Waste Memoirs!

You’re in the right place if you’re looking for some down-to-earth guidance on living the Zero Waste life, recommendations as to how to achieve it on a budget and in a small town, and a lot of nerdy humor.

The Zero Waste Memoirs began during the summer of 2016 when our eyes were opened to the damage our garbage was doing in the world. Thanks to a little inspiration by Bea Johnson’s book, Zero Waste Homewe’ve since taken our ecological impact into our own hands.

Believe me, it’s been a journey.

We are so honored that you are interested in taking this journey with us. We sincerely hope that this blog will be an inspiration to you, that you’ll find some comfort knowing that we’ve gone ahead and done this before you, and that you’ll find a way to make Zero Waste a part of your own life! Enjoy!

About the Bloggers

Lauren Headshot

I’m a Pacific Northwest girl, born and raised! I attended Seattle Pacific University to study Global Development and Social & Sustainable Business Management, and have since spent much of my career working in nonprofit marketing and social enterprise. Today, I’m a full-time freelance writer! You can find out more about that part of my life here.

At my core I’m an artist. I love creating in every form: visual art, writing, music, dance, cooking, children’s book illustrations, you name it!

A few more things to know about me? I will forever vote Knoppe-Swanson (Parks & Recreation – woot woot!). I adore my cat and everyone else’s cats. And rich chocolate makes me sneeze.

The Zero Waste Memoirs is my creative outlet; I sincerely hope it inspires you as much as it has me! I’m so glad you’re here.

Hi there! It’s great to have you here.

I’m a military man with medical aspirations. As an Emergency Management Specialist for the United States Air Force, I split my time between my military service, pursuing my education and enjoying the natural beauty of Wyoming where Lauren and I are stationed. Nearing the end of my Bachelor’s in Exercise Science I’ll be taking on a professional Doctorate degree in Physical Therapy.

I’m always seeking new ways to improve myself. Seeing and encouraging progress in myself and others is one of my greatest passions! When I’m not hiking, playing guitar, singing or wishing I had enough time to do theater, you can often find me trying one of my lovely wife’s crazy ideas for life changing plans!

I’m excited to jump into this with her and I hope you’ll join us on our journey!

As a Couple

We are adventure-lovers, aspirational hikers, and spend way more time in the toy aisle at Target than any grown-ups should! On any given day, you can find us biking around Cheyenne, testing every cologne in Macy’s just for the heck of it, or enjoying a delicious picnic in the park by our house. We love musical theatre, think we’re way more clever than we actually are, and love our kitty Andy to pieces.

It’s great to meet you!
